Chrons disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of intestines. It mainly causes ulcerations in the lining of the small and large intestines, but can also affect anywhere from the mouth to anus. Chron's disease also closely related to another chronic inflammatory condition called ulcerative colitis. Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis together are known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Chron's disease can occur at any age. Males and females both are equally affected. Smokers are at high risk to develop Crohns disease compared to nonsmokers. Family history is also one of the cause. Treatment options are limited to controlling symptoms, preventing relapse and maintaining remission.
