What is Muscular Dystrophy?

Muscular diseases encompass many ailments that can impair the functioning of muscles. Muscular Dystrophy is the disease of the muscles. They are progressive disorders of the muscles where limb-girdle, facial and even the heart muscles can get affected and become frail and weak. Through this disease can happen at any age, it is mostly diagnosed in childhood. Mostly, young boys develop muscular dystrophy/ myopathy more often than girls.

What are the common symptoms of Muscular Dystrophy?

There are around 30 types of muscular dystrophy, and though they vary in the symptoms and the severity, the most common ones have been listed below:

  • Loss of reflexes
  • Trouble in walking, standing up
  • Poor posture
  • Swallowing problems
  • Frequent falls
  • Muscle cramps
  • Poor motor control
  • Drooping muscles in the face
  • Slanted shoulders
